Spring, Summer & Winter Break Programs
Connecting with kids during their school breaks is one of the most critical times for prevention. With endless amounts of time on their hand and often very little supervision, school breaks are prime time for at-risk youth to get recruited by gangs or to experiment with risky sexual or drug-related behaviour.
YBYG’s Spring, Summer and Winter Break Programs are a cornerstone of our support for at-risk youth. With an emphasis on keeping kids connected to their school and community, Break Programs build friendships, acceptance, and the confidence for youth to make healthy, positive choices.
Activities include a variety of exercises to develop physical and mental strength, flexibility, agility and relaxation as well as specific physical literacy skills. Youth spend time playing basketball, ball hockey, soccer, as well as learning judo, jui jitsu, qi gong, and tae kwon do.
“Joe Calendino and the YBYG team have made a difference in the lives of many students. I have watched many troubled youth from our school and community become young, confident men and women, who are now mentoring their peers, taking on leadership roles, and thriving toward their preferred futures. They are part of the YBYG team, giving back to the community, and continuing to grow and learn as young adults.— Janice Smith, Principal South Surrey Learning Centre
